Meet me at midnight: An rhs Anthology

“Here and now”

It’s October 31st, and Niles is destined to spend this Holloweaves alone. At midnight, he’ll speak his parents’ names aloud. This is what must be done to commemorate the dead. But this year, traditions are about to change.

A companion to my current work-in-progress

what people are saying about “Here and now”

Images that inspired the writing process

Thunderstorm. Shadows. Tea. Letters. Feathers. Rainbow confetti. Dreams.

These are just some of the things filling the spaces of my short story. They inspired my writing process and kept me enticed every minute til midnight.

This is Kayla’s Version

Do you dare speak the names of those you miss most like the characters in “Here and Now?”

Dive into your dreams and grant yourself the grace to grieve, if you must. Niles and Camryn will be waiting in these pages whenever you’re ready.

Make sure you never miss me for too long. That’s how people become ghosts and memories become a haunting.

I was once dubbed the “queen of heartbreak” and I guess it’s true, I tend to gravitate toward such themes in my writing. But after mourning for much of 2023, crafting this short story was especially catahrtic.

Songs That Inspired This Short Story

My writing process always involves a curated playlist and that was no different during the creation of this short story!
